From July 2017 to July 2019, Van made history as the only person to serve two consecutive terms as the President of the National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) in Hunan Province, China. His tenure was marked by exceptional leadership, advocacy for Ghanaian students, and strengthening of Ghana-China relations.
One of his most notable achievements during his presidency was his collaboration with the Chairman of the Hunan Mining Association, 王彪 (Bill Wang), to welcome Ghana’s First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, in 2017. This event was a testament to his diplomatic skills and ability to foster strong international relationships.

A Family Rooted in Excellence
Van comes from a distinguished background of leadership and excellence. His father a former Ghana Army Colonel, worked closely with former Ghanaian President J.J. Rawlings, playing an important role in governance before President Kufuor took office. His mother, Nancy Kufuor Hatse, was a florist and event organiser/manager from Kumasi and the niece of President Kufuor, further cementing his ties to Ghana’s elite leadership circles.
